LG Elections to Follow General Election: EC

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has announced plans to hold Local Government Elections in accordance with a Supreme Court order, following the conclusion of the upcoming General Election.

In a statement, the Commission affirmed its respect for the Supreme Court’s decision on August 22, 2024, regarding the Fundamental Rights Applications tied to the 2023 Local Government Elections.

The chairman emphasized the Commission’s commitment to upholding the democratic rights of Sri Lankans, stating that a date for the local elections will be set immediately after the parliamentary elections.
