PM Tells Parliament President Lacks Authority to Appoint Acting IGP

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena claimed Parliament that the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) is not vacant, thus preventing the President from appointing an Acting IGP.

In his statement to Parliament, PM Gunawardena claimed that the President does not have the legal authority to appoint an Acting IGP.

The PM further said the Government cannot accept the Supreme Court order regarding the IGP.
