Former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Nilantha Jayawardena, has been placed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.
The National Police Commission announced this decision pending the conclusion of an inquiry into his involvement in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Jayawardena’s conduct as the SIS Chief before the Easter Sunday carnage, heavily criticised as the intelligence authorities failed to act despite having prior information.
