Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana has become the most expensive player in the Lanka Premier League’s history as the player was sold for a whopping USD 120,000 in the auction.
Matheesha Pathirana, renowned for his Lasith Malinga-esque bowling style, has been making a name for himself with outstanding performances in the IPL.
And the young pacer was sold to Colombo Strikers as they exercised their Right to Match card. The base price of USD 50,000 was taken up to 120,000 by Galle Marvels, who shattered the LPL records. But Galle’s moment was shortlived as Colombo Strikers exercised their RTM card to retain Pathirana’s services with the record price of USD 120,000 – which is Rs 99.97 lakh in Indian currency and LKR 3.59 crore in Sri Lankan currency.
The 21-year-old has played 12 ODIs and 6 T20Is for Sri Lanka and has made a promising start to his international career. The youngster has also played 20 matches for CSK and has 34 wickets to his name. In the ongoing IPL 2024, Pathirana picked up 13 wickets in just six matches. He is also part of the Sri Lanka team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.
