President Ranil Wickremesinghe has confirmed that there will be a salary increase for all public servants in the 2023 budget.
This assurance was conveyed to the Cabinet by the President, as reported by sources from the Presidential Secretariat.
Furthermore, it has been stated that the President intends to request a pay raise for private sector workers starting from the following year.
During this announcement, Mr. Wickremesinghe also addressed the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (National Peoples Power) and their attempts to claim credit for the pay hike, dismissing their involvement as baseless. There were reports of NPP-organized picketing campaigns outside certain state offices.
The President emphasized that the government’s policy is to provide salary increments to public servants in response to increases in the prices of essential commodities.
The budget for the year 2023 is scheduled to be presented by the President on 13 November.
