State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara today (21) said that protests of farmers should not be labeled as JVP or SJB as farmers express their genuine concers throughout the protests.

Speaking to the media, the State Minister said that farmers in the country express their genuine agitations in the protests.

” Sri Lanka had been a self-sufficient country. We had never been in a famine in recent times. Although the country became self sufficient in rice in 2014, for the first time, Sri Lanka had had to import rice from overseas this time, and it will impact the current forex crisis as well,” he added.

Therefore, it is not wise to blame farmers’ protests that they are organized by the JVP and the SJB. Such protests should be considered as genuine concers and agitations of the farmers in Sri Lanka, the State Minister asserted.
