SLPP MP Dilan Perera yesterday (23) said that to recover Sri Lankan economy which is facing a crisis at the moment, attention should be drawn to manufacture innovative products using local resources.
“For as example we can manufacture and sell products using Wel penela (Cardiosprmum halicacabum) as the Sri Lankan version of Viagra. There will be a huge demad for that and everyone will start using such products.”
Perera made this remarks at a press conference at SLPP headquarters.
He said that permission has to also be granted to grow cannabis for medicinal purposes and the usage of them under certain restrictions. Not only that, permission should be granted to grow ‘Walla patta’ as much as possible.
Speaking further, Perera said that he cannot understand why some people make a huge noice over re-opening bars.
“Are they saying that only the rich people can drink? Rich people didn’t avoid drinking during the quarantine curfew because they can get branded liquor somehow. They have their ways for that. But the poor people don’t have such luxuries. At the end of the day, they will fall into illicit liquor and moonshine. This is a real tragedy,” he stressed.
Also, this is not a country which ruled by Taliban. People have a free will here. Those who like to drink can do that while those who don’t like drink can practice their principle. This is not Taliban to restrict the liberty of people, he said.
