Committee to be appointed to probe Ratwatte’s break in to A’pura Prison

The Cabinet granted its approval to appoint a committee under a retired High Court judge to probe the alleged break in to Anuradhapura Prison where Tamil prisoners were threatened by former State Minister for Prisons Lohan Ratwatte, Justice Minister Ali Sabry informed parliament today (22).

Ali Sabry said he condemn the alleged break-ins caused by Ratwatte and added that he empathise with the victims of the incident.

Following the controversy erupted after Ratwatte’s alleged break-ins to Welikada and Anuradhapura prisons recently, he resigned from prison management portfolio. However, he still holds the post of State Minister of Gem and Jewellery.

The President’s Media Division said that Ratwatte resigned after taking responsibility for the alleged incidents.
