CBSL Governor W.D. Lakshman announced that he is stepping down from his post since 14 September.
During a media briefing, the CBSL Governor said that he originally planned to announce his retirement on his 80th Birthday.
“However, I decided to step down 6 weeks before my birthday because I was hurt due to certain things happened during last 10 days,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that he never betrayed his conscience when he carried out duties as the CBSL Governor.
“According to my family and the friends, stepping down at this moment is a blessing in disguise,” he noted.
Lakshman said that although he got an offer to join the IMF, he will not accept that ‘lucrative’ offer.
W.D. Lakshman was appointed as the 15th CBSL Governor by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in December 2019.
He is a well-known economist and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo from 1994 to 1999.
It is reported that State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal will take over the CBSL Governor’s post next week.
