Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law granted bail in rape case

MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law, Mohamed Ziyabdeen was released on bail today (16).

Charges were filed against the suspect for raping an underage domestic aide at the residence of Bathiudeen in 2016, on two separate occasions.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala ordered to release him on bail on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000. The suspect was ordered to hand over his passport to the Court and he was also barred from travelling overseas.

The counsel appeared for the suspect noted that the CID has not submit a report to prove the rape allegation which occurred few years ago, thus the Judge ordered to release him on bail.

The suspect was warned that if he tries to obstructed the investigations and influenced the witnesses from the prosecution, bail will be revoked and he will be remanded until the conclusion of the trial.
