The Public Health Inspectors’ Union today requested the public to go for a ‘self-lockdown’ next week, claming that since the government would not impose a lockdown the public should make sure they are safe from COVID-19 themselves.

Upul Rohana, PHIU President said that they are highly disappointed with the conduct of the government in a situation that COVID-19 delta varient is spreading across the country rapidly.

“We will no longer request the government to impose a lock down becausw they never care about what we say. So we urge the public to go for a self-lockdown from Monday (16) to protect themselves,” he said

The public can collect essential items including food and stay at homes at least for a week to be safe from the pandemic, he said.

“The higher-ups make their decisions in AC rooms and they have no understanding about the ground reality of the country. We also urge them to come out of their AC rooms and inspect what has happened to the country,” Rohana said.
