India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, arrived in Sri Lanka today (4) for an official visit. During his stay, he is set to hold courtesy meetings with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar and his delegation will meet with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is accompanied by senior officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

This visit marks the first by a foreign minister since Sri Lanka’s new government was sworn in last week. According to Indian media, Jaishankar’s visit reaffirms the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the visit reflects India’s “neighbourhood first” policy and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) outlook, emphasizing both countries’ commitment to strengthening their partnership for mutual benefit. This is the first high-level engagement between the two countries since the new Sri Lankan President took office.
