The Irrigation Department has issued an ‘Amber’ warning as rising water levels in the Kuda Ganga pose flood threats over the next 48 hours in the Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, and Madurawala Divisional Secretariat (DS) divisions.
According to the department, considerable rainfall has been recorded in the upstream catchment areas of the Kuda Ganga Sub Basin of the Kalu River as of 9:00 a.m. today. Analyzing the current rainfall and river levels at Hydrological Stations in the Kalu Ganga, authorities warn of potential flooding in the low-lying areas of the Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga valleys within these divisions.
The flood warning is effective until 9:00 a.m. on Monday (19), and the department highlighted a significant risk of road inundation in the flood plains of the Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga. Residents in these areas and motorists are advised to exercise caution, and Disaster Management Authorities are urged to take necessary precautions.
