Four defendants found guilty of murdering a man by attacking him with clubs and stones have been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court.
High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige handed down the death sentences on Tuesday (30) to the four accused, who are residents of the Orugodawatta area.
A total of six defendants had been charged in the Colombo High Court for the assault and subsequent death of a person in the Santawatta area of Orugodawatta in 2013.
However, the second defendant passed away during the trial, and the sixth defendant was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
In 2017, the Attorney General filed charges against the defendants under four indictments. Delivering the verdict, Judge Patabandige stated that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to the death sentences for the four accused.
