A new Director has been appointed to the National Eye Hospital after doctors warned they would strike if the Acting Director was not removed from his position.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) had previously announced plans for a trade union action to protest the Acting Director’s continued leadership.

According to Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, the GMOA Media Spokesman, the association formally requested the Acting Director’s removal from authorities earlier this morning (23).

“The situation at the eye hospital is very tense. The Acting Director’s behavior is entirely unsuited to his role,” Dr. Wijesinghe remarked.
