Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has directed the Secretary of the Justice Ministry to suspend the gazetting of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill until after the Presidential Election is held.
This decision arises amidst allegations that the amendment is being utilized as a tactic to delay the election.
The amendment seeks to modify paragraph (b) of Article 83 by substituting the words “exceeding six years” with “exceeding five years.”
