‘Serial killer’ Arrested After Bodies Found in Kenya Dump

Kenyan police have arrested Collins Jomaisi Khalusha, a man described as a “serial killer” suspected of murdering nine women whose mutilated bodies were found in a disused quarry in Nairobi. Khalusha, 33, allegedly confessed to killing 42 women since 2022, including his wife. His arrest came on Monday morning while he was watching the Euro final at a bar.

The suspect led police to his nearby house, where they recovered incriminating items, including phones, ID cards, and a machete.

Shock and outrage have gripped Kenya since the discovery of the dismembered bodies last Friday. Local residents, who claim to have counted 16 bodies, are puzzled by how 42 murders went unnoticed over two years. The victims, aged between 18 and 30, were all killed similarly, and post-mortem examinations are underway.

The police have cordoned off the dumpsite and are interrogating Khalusha to determine his motive. Another person found with a victim’s phone has also been arrested. Kenya’s police watchdog is investigating potential police involvement in the crimes, as the dumpsite is near a police station. The station’s officers have been transferred to ensure unbiased investigations.

This discovery has compounded existing tensions, following recent police shootings during protests against tax hikes and the resignation of Kenya’s police chief, Japhet Koome. Kenyans are demanding thorough investigations into both the serial killings and the protest-related deaths. (Agencies)
