SLPP MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha has withdrawn the police complaint filed against fellow party member MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage, accusing him of physical assault at the Presidential Secretariat. The withdrawal reportedly took place on Monday (1).
The incident stems from a clash between the two SLPP members during a ruling party meeting on June 3. Following the altercation, Gunathilaka Rajapaksha’s son had lodged a complaint with the Colombo-Fort Police, alleging that MP Aluthgamage had assaulted his father during the meeting. Reports indicated that Gunathilaka Rajapaksha had sustained a serious leg injury, requiring over four hours of surgery.
Statements were recorded from other SLPP MPs who were present at the meeting, but they reportedly did not witness any assault.
In response to the allegations, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage claimed that he did not assault MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha. Instead, he asserted that Rajapaksha had fallen down stairs. Aluthgamage also warned of taking legal action against Rajapaksha for making false accusations against him.
