The Election Commission has clarified that despite the postponement of the 2023 Local Government (LG) elections, the local government election law remains enforceable since the elections have not been concluded.
It emphasized that Article 104(a) of the Constitution maintains the continued validity of the local government election law under these circumstances.
Therefore, the Election Commission cautioned against any actions that promote specific political parties, candidates, or political groups during this period.
Additionally, the commission has issued circulars and an extraordinary gazette notification to all heads of public institutions, prohibiting the use of state property for such purposes.
The election regulatory body underscored that violating these guidelines during this period constitutes a punishable offense.
Moreover, the commission called upon all parties to adhere to the provisions and circulars issued to ensure the upcoming elections are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
