Breaking: Nathasha Edirisooriya Released from ICCPR Case

The cases filed against Nathsha Edirisooriya and Bruno Diwakara under the draconian ICCPR Act were dropped by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court a short while ago.

The Fort Magistrate ordered Edirisooriya’s release from the case as the Attorney General decided to withdraw all charges against her as there are no evidence to prove them.

Although the CID requested the Magistrate to reconsider, the Magistrate refused the request and ordered Edirisooriya’s release from the case.

Edirisooriya was arrested last year under the Act, based on allegations that one of her statements made during a comedy show on 1 April ‘insulted’ Prince Siddhartha. She was in remand for three months.

Subsequently, SLVlog owner Bruno Diwakara who was arrested over facilitating the comedy show, was also released from the case against him, after Edirisooriya was released.
