Parliamentarian Chandima Weerakkody said yesterday he got to know that vehicle permits for Members of Parliament had been passed according to the request of the government.

He told Parliament that most people were expecting to import vehicles but the government claimed that vehicles could be imported next year.

“Most people are expecting to import vehicles. But, the government said vehicles can be imported only next year. However, I heard that MPs’ permits have been passed following your request,” he told the government MPs in Parliament.

Speaking during the debate, he said President Ranil Wickremesinghe claimed that the salaries of government employees would be increased next year and added that all these promises are given to hoodwink the people. (Daily Mirror)
