Sri Lanka has paid the initial payment of $50 million from a $200 million loan that obtained from Bangladesh in September 2021.
This financial support was provided by the Bangladesh Bank to address Sri Lanka’s urgent foreign exchange reserve crisis back then.
According to Md Mezbaul Haque, the executive director and spokesperson of the Bangladesh Bank, the first payment from Sri Lanka was received on August 17.
It is expected that another installment will be paid by Sri Lanka by August 30. The entire $200 million loan is projected to be repaid by September, as indicated by the Bangladesh Bank.
The financial assistance was given to Sri Lanka in three separate tranches under a currency swap agreement. The initial $50 million was transferred on August 19, followed by a second payment of $100 million on August 30. The final tranche of $50 million was delivered in September 2021.
