On Tuesday (1) evening, a group of mountain climbers discovered the remains of an unidentified woman during their hike on the Great Western Mountain in Thalawakelle.
Upon making the discovery, they immediately contacted the local authorities. Following an operation led by the Lindula Police and the Sri Lanka Army, the remains were brought down from the mountain on Wednesday (2) evening and handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The deceased woman is estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, and her identity remains unknown.
Tragically, during the effort to bring down the remains, a Sri Lanka Army Corporal fell ill and passed away after being hospitalized.
