Director General of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka Oshada Senanayake said that legal approval has been granted for Number Portability service in Sri Lanka.
Number portability enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network carrier to another.
Accordingly, all the service providers were informed to create a central data base regarding the subscribers.
Senanayake said that Number Portability will most likely come into service from May 2022, when all technical aspects are fulfilled.
