Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today (12) pledged to increase teachers’ ans principal’s salaries by two phases to resolve dexades long salary anomaly issues of them.
The PM made this pledge when Teachers’s and Principal’s trade union representatives met him at Temple Trees.
During the discussion, the PM said that one third of the salary increase will be granted by Budget 2022 and other amount will be paid in 2023.
Although the government is sensitive towards the issues faced by the teachers, the demands cannot be fulfilled at once due to the economic situation in the country at the moment, the PM said.
The trade unions are to announce their final decision regarding continuing on-going trade union action tomorrow (13).
