SJB MP Manusha Nanayakkara today (23) filed a Fundamental Rights petition in Supreme Court seeking a declaration that appointment of former State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the CBSL Governor has no legal effect, Daily Mirror reported.
Accordingly, Nanayakkara has named Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Cabraal, Monitor Board of Central Bank, Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundara and Attorney General as respondents.
The petitioner said that Cabraal was appointed as CBSL Governor as a result of political agenda and not because of national interest.
Nanayakkara claimed that when Cabraal was the CBSL Governor from 2006 – 2015, he proved that he lacked in competency, integrity and responsibility that is necessary to hold a post like CBSL Governor.
