Sri Lanka to allow import of sugar

Permission has been granted to import sugar in the future, Commissioner General of Essential Services, Major General Senarath Nivunhella today (16) said.

Accordingly, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has instructed the officials to take necessary steps regarding the matter.

The Government suspended the import of sugar a few months ago and set a control price for sugar.

According to State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna the current stocks of sugar in the country will be sufficient for about another two and a half months.
