MPRishad Bathiudeenwas named as the fifth suspect in the case on the death of a 16-year-old domestic worker at his residence, today (23).
The other four suspects including his wife were further remanded until 6 September, when the case was taken up before the Colombo Magistrate’ Court today.
Apart from Bathiudeen’s wife, his father-in-law, brother-in-law and the broker who brought the teenage girl to Colombo have been named as suspects in the case.
Jude Kumar Ishalini was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on 3 July following severe burn injuries, while working at Bathiudeen’s residence. She succumbed to the injuries on 15 July.
The post mortem revealed that she had been sexually abused for a long period.
Her body was exhumed on 3 July for the second autopsy.
