Colombo Additional Magistrate on Tuesday (17) Lochani Abeywickrama announced in open court that the Quarantine Law should never be above the people’s right to expression, freedom of speech and to protest, that have been enshrined in the constitutions of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, News First reported.
The Magistrate made this announcement when a case filed by the Mutuwal Police against Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialists Party (FSP) Pubudu Jayagoda was taken up in court today (17).
The case had been filed against Jagoda for violating the travel restrictions and taking part in a protest organized by fisheries Community in Mutuwal against the damage caused by MV X-Press Pearl fire to their livelihoods.
