The Government has decided to establish a new company under the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to manufacture and provide liquid gas to the local market at a reasonable price.
The preliminary steps regarding this are being taken by the Ministry of Energy at the moment. Accordingly, construction will be started of new oil refinery with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day at Sapugaskanda.
Right now, the CPC produces nearly 5% local liquid gas and provides it to Litro Gas Lanka and Laufgs Gas PLC equally.
After the construction of the refinery, the CPC will be able to produce 20% of local gas demand, the ministry said.
