Ayurvedic Commissioner Dhammika Abeygunawardena today (11) said that the temporary licence granted for ‘Dhammika’ syrup as a food supplement was revoked.
The licence was revoked following clinical trial results that prove the said syrup is not effective as an immunity booster, he said.
Abeygunawardena said that licences have been granted for 14 products as such, but Dhammika syrup is not among them.
“We gave a temporary licence for that syrup to manufacture and sell it as an immunity booster. However, following clinical trials, it was revealed that the product was not effective. So we cancelled the licence,” he said.
Dhammika syrup which was said to be a product of a shaman named Dhammika Bandara in Kegalla sparked controversy in the country following Bandara’s claim that the syrup can cure COVID-19.
