The world’s largest star sapphire cluster which was found recently in Sri Lanka is expected to be sold at an international auction which will be held in November in China, State Minister of Gem and Jewellery related Industries Lohan Ratwatte has said.
The star sapphire cluster was found in the backyard of a house while digging a well in Ratnapura.
According to the experts, the stone is valued at USD 100 million.
The cluster weighs around 510 kg or 2.5 million carats and has been named the “Serendipity Sapphire”.
Furthermore, it is reported that the National Gem and Jewellery Authority has already commenced the process of assessing its value.
The stone is currently with the owner under special security.
